My name is Yuzhe He 何宇喆, Founder and Editor of this China-focused English newsletter. Writing from the Chinese mainland, I serve a readership primarily composed of Western policymakers, journalists, academics, business leaders, and investors.
Born and raised in central China's Hubei province, I earned my bachelor's degree from Fujian Normal University in June 2022 before completing a master's in conference interpreting at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing in June 2024. The following month, I joined the Beijing headquarters of China's state news agency, Xinhua.
I launched this newsletter independently shortly after joining Xinhua. It is a solo endeavor—entirely self-funded and operated without official approval or budget from Xinhua or any other state organ.
China's media landscape is highly saturated. To combat information overload, this newsletter cuts through the noise by locating, summarizing, contextualizing, and translating high-value, incremental insights from mainland articles, speeches, and policy documents.
My work has been cited as a source by The New York Times, Asia Society, and others.
